Beach Park Station Historical Marker

The year 1818 was a important one, as it was the year that at least two Northern Ohio cities were founded: Sandusky and Avon Lake. Both have been celebrating their Bicentennial this year, with ongoing activities and special presentations.

While Sandusky is winding down its festivities, Avon Lake will be going strong with its celebration until July 4, 2019, with many events sponsored by Heritage Avon Lake. There is even a special Bicentennial website – www.avonlake200.org – with great vintage photos. The website includes memories and stories posted by residents that are a valuable documentation of life in Avon Lake.

As part of the celebration in Avon Lake, an Ohio Historical Marker was recently dedicated at the shopping center on Lake Road, honoring the location of the Beach Park Station of the Lake Shore Electric Railway. I missed the event (which you can read about here), but finally made it out there with my camera this past weekend to check out the marker.

The marker sits right next to LSE 38 (a favorite topic on this blog, including this two-part series about the process of moving of the car to the shopping center).
