Beaver Mystery Solved

Beaver mascots for The Hut (left) and Beaver Park Marina (right)
From groundhogs to beavers...

A few weeks ago I did a post about the 1964 Grand Opening of The Hut, and the similarity between its beaver mascot and the mascot for the Beaver Park Marina.

Well as it turns out, there was no skullduggery involved, and the 'mystery' was solved very quickly (which was a first for this blog).

Carolyn Sipkovsky from the Black River Historical Society contacted me with the explanation. As Carolyn noted, "The reason for the Beaver as the logo at the Hut is because Walt Rothgery ran both The Hut and the Beaver House, a bar on the beach to the east of where the Beaver Park Marina North now stands." Carolyn also pointed out that her husband Frank (also of the BRHS) worked at the Beaver House and that he helped Walt get The Hut ready by painting.

Thanks to Carolyn for providing me with this information. The last thing this blog needed was another mystery!
