What date should a city use as its official birthday?
I suppose there are different ways to determine it. The date when it was first settled, founded or incorporated are all good choices.
In the past, Lorain apparently used the date of its first election: April 6, 1874. That’s the date cited in this small blurb (above) from the front page of the Lorain Times-Herald on April 6, 1927.
So if you buy into that theory, Lorain is one hundred and forty-four years old today. Happy Birthday, hometown!
