Vermilion in Post Cards – Part 2: Linwood Park

Continuing with my look at Vermilion through picture post cards found on Ebay...

Linwood Park and its iconic gate has long been a source of curiosity to me as I’ve driven by it. Just what is Linwood Park? According to Ohio.org, "Linwood Park is a lakeside recreational community on the shores of Lake Erie in Vermilion, Ohio.

"The Park was founded in 1883 and inspired by the Methodist Sunday School Assembly at Chautauqua, NY. They offer a large, well maintained, beautiful beach on Lake Erie. On the grounds of the Park, visitors will find an ice cream stand, picnic facilities, bath house, playground, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts all in a setting that takes one back in time.
"Daily, weekly lodging is available for those wishing to stay for a while. A gate fee is required for entry."
Not surprisingly, Linwood Park has long been the subject of post cards, a few of which are shown below. It’s interesting seeing the community hidden behind that entrance gate. It’s also fascinating seeing how the entrance itself changed over the years.
