Vermilion in Post Cards – Part 1: Route 6 Bridge and Water Tower

Well, we're into summertime now – so it's time for this blog to head out to Vacationland for a while. First stop: Vermilion (my home). How about a tour of the city via vintage postcards?

Like many cities (including Lorain), Vermilion has had several “Greetings From...” postcard designs.

Driving into Vermilion, a visitor is treated to several iconic structures that quite naturally have been captured by photographers for decades.
The U.S. Route 6 bridge over the Vermilion River has long been the subject of postcards.

(1936 Postmark)

The iconic Vermilion water tower (or "water sphere”) has also made it onto a few cards.

This postcard was postmarked 1941.
