1963 Lorain County Savings & Trust Christmas Club Ad

Here's one last Lorain Journal Christmas-themed ad from December 1963. This one is for the Lorain County Savings & Trust Company. (Seeing as this blog is supposed to cover all of Lorain County, it seemed only right to include this ad.)

Nowadays you don't see very many ads for Christmas Clubs. (By the way, I did end up raiding this year's Christmas Club stash to catch up on next year's!)

Anyway, since I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to Elyria and its businesses, I had to do a little online research to find out what eventually happened to this bank. It appears that it is now part of FirstMerit Bank

Research also revealed that Lorain County Savings & Trust Company had one of the first office towers in Elyria for many years. To see a postcard of it and other Elyria landmarks, click here to visit a great local website, Classic Elyria Postcards.

I bought my grandmother's house when she passed away 30 plus years ago. I was cleaning some stuff out of the basement yesterday and found a metal lock box with the logo on it of "The Lorain County Savings & Trust Co., Elyria, O.
When my grandmother bought her house from the builder in 1929, she took in another teacher as a boarder who was from Oberlin. My grandmother married a widower with a child, that was my mother. The boarder lived with the family until she retired and went back to Oberlin.

I googled it and found your post. Do you know if there is a historical society or someone in the area who would be interested in having this box. I could send a picture if someone wanted to see it.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Jane,

I would contact the Lorain County Historical Society, since it is based in Elyria and covers the whole county.

Lorain County History Center
284 Washington Ave
Elyria, Ohio 44035
(440) 322-3341
lchs@lchs.org
OPEN Tuesday through Friday,
10:00 am to 4:00 pm

They create themed displays from time to time and your lock box (if it is in good shape) might fit right in with one about the many Lorain County banks that have come and gone through the years.
