Young Timer’s Shop Christmas Ad – Dec. 7, 1960

Here’s an odd-looking Christmas-themed ad for The Young Timers Shop, a children’s clothing store originally located at 700 Broadway. The ad ran in the Lorain Journal on Dec. 7, 1960.

The character in the ad is ostensibly an elf, but it appears that the artist who designed him was trying something different. He has a creepy, offbeat quality to him, that’s for sure.

As for The Young Timers Shop, it first appeared in the Lorain City Directory around 1947. Norman Epstein was the manager. By 1950 the clothing store had expanded its offerings to include toys at a 673 Broadway location. By 1960 the Downtown Lorain address had changed to 710 Broadway.

The store’s slogan was “If Children Use It, We Have It."

As the ad notes, eventually there were three locations: Downtown Lorain, the O’Neil Sheffield Center and the Great Northern Shopping Center in North Olmsted.

The store disappeared from the city directory listings around 1964.
