Well, my last post was a Christmas-themed ad featuring Reddy Kilowatt – so I might as well close out the year with an ad with a Happy New Year motif with our electrical pal. This ad ran in the Lorain Sunday News on Sunday, December 29, 1946.
****
The Ohio Public Service Company ad above shared the newspaper page with ads for Central Record Shop (which was located opposite the hospital, according to its ad), Universal Cleaners, the Central Bank, Lake Erie Lodge No. 552 Loyal Order of Moose, Delis Bros. Furniture and Rusine's.The Rusine's ad specifically promoted only one item – a book –namely, God's Little Acre. The ad noted that the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice had brought the first publishers of the story into court on an obscenity charge, but that the court dismissed the case. Fortunately, Rusines stated that the store would not sell the book to persons under 21. I wonder if they sold a lot of them as a result of the ad?
Anyway, here's wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best in 2015.
