Routes 6 & 2 Vacation Map – May 11, 1957

Well, it's after Memorial Day, so that means it's the unofficial kick-off to summer.

So it's a good time to post this – a cool ad that ran in a two-page spread in the Lorain Journal on May 11, 1957. (Click on it for a larger view.)

The ad celebrated the completion of the work being done on the highway at that time and served as an advertisement to promote the businesses in that area.

It's a fascinating little graphic, full of long-gone businesses and attractions.

Love it!! I have lived close to Route 6 or 2 all of my life, but in Erie County. Those routes have shaped my comings and goings for a long, long time!

Glad you like the ad, Dorene! I'm kinda sentimental about the old US 6 & SR 2 route as well!

Was Edna's Restaurant one of those businesses at West Erie and Franke Drive? I've still found very very little on what was there in the 50's and 60's.

You'll have your answer tomorrow, Drew! (heh-heh)

Fior's Spaghetti House has been the Driftwood Inn for the last 20 years or so. It was called the Hannah House or Hannah's Spaghetti House prior to that. The owner recently found really nice pictures of the property and neighborhood from the 20's or 30's in the attic. Ask the barmaid to see them if you stop in!!

I need some vacation time on Lake Erie! Summer with its stifling temperatures in the 90s have hit Washington, DC.
