It's officially summer now, and for many local children back in the 1960s that meant it was time for the annual summer fun at Camp Iss-See-Kes.
The full page article written by Doug Warren above ran in the Lorain Journal on June 24, 1965. The article provides a look at what the YMCA camp was like in 1965, as well as a nice history of it.
I first wrote about Camp Iss-See-Kes and its iconic sign back here in 2013.
I missed your first article about Camp Iss See Kes, but have gone back and read it fully. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI drive by the entrance often and notice that the sign is just a ghost of what it used to be. I've always wondered what happened to that campground.
Back in the 70's, the 6th Grade class of South Amherst would spend a weekend at Camp Iss See Kes. It was like a rite of passage.
I'm not sure when, or how long this "tradition" happened, but MY weekend was filled with fun, stories of past escapades and a visit from THE Weatherman himself, Dick Goddard.
I also recall getting locked inside a Porta-John.
Yeah, I was "that" guy.
