Saw on the news today that the Space Spiral was demolished yesterday. Gee, I never did get that last ride on it. Oh well, it will live on in my Cedar Point memories along with Jungle Larry, the Pirate Ride, the Earthquake Ride, the Mill Race...
Here's the
link to some great demolition photos on the Sandusky Register website. And here is the
link to the demolition video footage on the WKYC website.
I loved that ride!!!
ReplyDeleteAw man, I was hoping Lorain would buy it and put it at the end of municipal pier! We gotta start somewhere, right? :)
ReplyDeleteA lot of people in Sandusky were hoping that the iconic structure could be moved to the city's waterfront. But I imagine that the expense would have been mind-numbingly high. But it sure is sad seeing it all laying there in a heap.
ReplyDeleteas a kid on my yearly trip to CP, I would ride this first to make a
ReplyDeleteplan to the rides, next I would go to the haunted house, and beyond!
My last visit to CP was in 1968, but I loved going to the top of the Spaced Spiral when we were there; it\
ReplyDelete's a shame they couldn't move it somewhere.
I wonder if it was just buried too deep to efficiently and cost-effectively relocate. There was no other view like that from the mainland.

ReplyDeleteA great family icon ride with lots of great memories!! Will surely be missed!!
