Forgotten Fast Foods: Mister S Part 1


One fast food place that is sort of a mystery is the Mister S Drive-in Restaurant that used to be at 15th and Broadway. It appeared in the Lorain City Directory in 1968, with two gentlemen's names listed: Charles Bennington and Milton Slutzker.
   I haven't been able to find out anything about this restaurant chain, if indeed it was a chain. I seem to remember seeing one somewhere else in Ohio and being surprised.  At least one other Lorainite thinks there were others out there, specifically mentioning seeing one in Omaha, Nebraska on a retro fast food blog.
   Anybody out there have any ideas?

    Below is a link to Google Street View of westbound M-5 in Farmington Hills, MI. Pictured is a former Mister S restaurant from the early 1960s (maybe earlier) that was located literally on the beginning of the old I-96 expressway (now M-5).

    You can see that the sign posts are angled to accomodate the Mister S logo-shaped sign. I remember that the sign had an Alfred E. Newman-looking guy on it with a head shaped like Stewie Griffin's (Family Guy). I'm pretty sure it existed until the late 1960s.

    I worked at one on State Road in Parma Ohio while in high school in 1964.

      There was 1 on Washtenaw Ave Ann Arbor MI the late 60's

    There was one in Omaha in the late 60s early 70s on the south west corner of 120th and Center Street

    There was one a mile east of Stearns road on lorain road on the north side of the road in north olmsted in the 60s

    Don't forget the one on "the state highway " which was the upper deck of the road from pulaski skyway to the Holland tunnel in Jersey city

    There was one in Flint Michigan on S.Dort hyw in the mid 60s I worked there while I was in high school than it changed to Mister Hot Dog
