They were driving up Rte. 57, and as I was home alone, my mom wanted to stop in Grafton to call and see if I was okay. Fortunately the gas station there was closed, so they drove on. My dad recalls seeing electricity running along the wires adjacent to the road as they approached Grafton and he suspected a tornado might be nearby. However they made it home without incident. We didn't know until the next day that a tornado had hit Grafton and obliterated Pittsfield.<br /><br />My most vivid memory is of the continuous flashes of lightning and ferocious roar of thunder. Right when the tornado hit Pittsfield, our front and back doors rattled badly at the same time.<br /><br />A week later we piled into the car with our Easter baskets to drive around and look at things.
