But did you know that there was a UFO sighted over the iconic pizza parlor back in April 1967? Read all about it below in this article that appeared in the Journal on April 28, 1967. (I'm betting Alan Hopewell remembers this.)
I couldn't find a follow-up story in the weeks after the sighting, so I'm assuming that the report went into Project Blue Book, along with a grease-stained Yala's carryout menu.Appropriately enough, the following "Our Space Age" comic panel appeared in the Journal a little more than a week later on May 9, 1967.
UFOs in our area have been a regular topic on this blog for some time. There were so many articles and reports of sightings in the Journal when I was growing up that flying saucers were always on my mind (and something else for me to worry about besides trying to achieve all A's).

I definitely remember that, Dan! UFOS had been an interest of mine since I was six, and my grandfather gave me a UFO magazine he'd found at work. There were a lot of sightings in our area back then, and there was an Avon Lake sighting in 1958 that got its own softcover book; the Public Library used to have a copy, and yet may.

ReplyDeleteI'm guessing, for most of us, "all A's" wasn't even on the radar.
I live in Avon Lake, and if aliens landed in my front yard and knocked on my front door I still wouldn't believe they exist.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Avon, one summer evening just after dusk, about 1990, my husband and I saw a UFO. We could see its lights but couldn’t distinguish its shape. We watched it hover over North Ridgeville and speed from one side of the horizon east - to the far west horizon in a second, pausing and hovering several times. Several neighbors also watched. I’ll never forget it.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever had a chance to ride on a UFO I would do it.Supposedly they can travel so fast that you could live for hundreds of years and it would only be the equivalent of a day or a week on Earth. So say you took a ride and flew away with your new alien buddy, you could live a whole different life for years and years away with them and you would only be missed by your friends on Earth for maybe a few hours at best.Who wants to come along and take a ride with me on the Spaceship Train to Outerspace? All aboard?
