Continuing our celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Ohio Turnpike, here's an ample sample of vintage postcards featuring the iconic highway. I've included the postmark date when available.
As you can see, there were a variety of cards with a "Greetings From..." theme.

The tollbooths appeared on a few.
Just like you Dan I prefer to take the scenic route whenever possible. On my Sunday afternoon trips back to college in Toledo I would always opt for route 2, but in the winter when the roads were dicey I sure was glad for the turnpike. The way they kept the turnpike clear of snow made the trek a little easier. Definitely didn’t mind paying the toll. Todd PS love the vintage post cards.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cool! The Turnpike has been one of those consistent things... my brother was in the Navy, so we'd take the turnpike to pick him up at the airport whenever he flew in from some far flung adventure.... or we would take it when going to PA or West Virginia. Good memories all around.
ReplyDeleteLove the postcards, Dan! Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of turnpike memorabilia I picked up a couple of Ohio Turnpike windbreaker jackets at a thrift store once. They look unworn and have a lining in them. They are army green and made out of classic nylon material.
