Death Rides the Highway – July 4, 1964

Well, the July 4th holiday is here, so you know what that means on this blog: a guest appearance by the Grim Reaper in yet another of those public service ads.

This one is from 1964 and appeared in The Journal on July 3rd. In this ad, Grim is nattily dressed with a suit and fedora right out of an early season of Mad Men.

As usual in these vintage ads, most of the advertisers, except for Columbia Gas and – rather appropriately – Ridge Hill Memorial Park, have unfortunately gone on to the Great Beyond.

Here's hoping you have a safe and happy July 4th!
